—Run for your Life—

*Are you athletic or a couch potato? Well if you will ask me my answer is the latter one. The last time I played "real" sports was in high school(ages ago). I was a part of the volleyball team and I was pretty active by then. We actually won the championships.

The end.

Years have passed and the lack of exercise led me to what I am today, BIG FAT BULKY(synonymous words). Don't get me wrong I do love sports, esp Volleyball (a big fan of UAAP, NCAA and Philippine Super Liga), but i really don't know why I didn't indulge myself into playing sports. I remember when I was in grade school my mom asked me if I would like to take lessons for Taekwondo and I strongly refused her offer. Perhaps I am more of a watcher than being a player if I may say.

Being fat is not easy and I know that a lot of people will agree to me. I get teased because of how I look and I have also experienced bullying at some point. I feel ugly, unlovable and down. You can't blame me, we all have insecurities and I think looking beyond your flaws is a tough thing to do.

For me everything in life is inspired by the domino effect and applying a healthy lifestyle will certainly create a positive impact on me and everything else will just follow. So I told to myself, what should I do to be healthy? Of course eating healthy food and changing bad habits is one of it but which exercise regimen should I be doing? I have listed three and I sorted it out.

Swimming
Pros:
•Must-learn
•Basic survival skill
•Major muscles will be used for strengthening and building
•Less strain on my body since I will be 50% lighter because of buoyancy.
•Anti-aging

Cons:
•Swimming lessons need a swimming pool—which I don't have
•Costly—I need to pay for the entrance, the trainer(since I don't know how to swim) and a membership fee(if applicable)
•Inconvenience—there's no public swimming pool that I know of around my area

Volleyball
Pros:
•I love this sport
•I know how to play it
•Physically challenging—which will enhance your endurance and flexibility
•Mind game—defensive and offensive aspect
•Camaraderie—a group sport

Cons:
•Who to play with?—can't be done alone
•Equipment—I don't have a ball and a net

(Basically, lack of resources limits me in doing these sports)

Looking at the Pros and Cons it gave me the idea that I need a sport that will not be limited by my budget, must be convenient and can be done anywhere, solitary or with a company. Of course it should possess the health benefits that I am after for and should be enjoyable as well. That's when these simple exercises came up.

Walking•Jogging•Running

Let's check the Pros:
•Basic Motor Skills
•Cheap
•Easy
•Convenient—any given time
•Jam packed with health benefits
•Venue—anywhere, however, to add some zest it's a good idea to go to a park once in a while with friends and perhaps meeting a new one ;) (w/in the vicinity: Circle, Wildlife and Ecopark).
•All in all I just need a good pair of shoes and I am ready to go

Cons:
•if you don't have rubber shoes that's still not a problem unless you have no feet.
•BIG CON—No excuses(unlike swimming, no pool, no go/volleyball no one to play with, no go/ gym, no money no entry)

So there, I have now an workout regimen that I can do to jump start my journey and hopefully I can grab some of my friends and family members too.

We now live in a world of fast food chains and a Golden Era of technology thus making our lives easier but not necessarily HEALTHIER. We tend to forget that Surfing the net won't loose the flabs compared to Surfing the waves and those "two cucumber slices" in your burger has NO MATCH with the QUARTER-POUNDER that lies under it. I am not a hypocrite. I am not a health guru and I do enjoy, well enjoy is an "understatement", I DO LOVE  those stuff but I believe that I must learn to be IN CONTROL and not to be the other way around. ;)

That's it for now folks. I will keep you updated as soon as I get started ;)

Thanks for reading.
